Knicks rookie and high-flyer Obi Toppin will participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, according to Shams of The Athletic.

The contest will take place during half-time of the NBA All-Star game on Sunday, March 7th in Atlanta. Toppin is the first participant to be announced for the event.

Though Toppin missed 10 games this season due to a calf injury, he’s had his fair share of highlight dunks since returning to action. He has also benefited from the Derrick Rose trade, who has been constantly looking for Toppin on the floor since joining the Knicks earlier this month. Obi is currently averaging 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game.

When asked about participating in the dunk contest earlier this season, Toppin couldn’t hold back his smile. “The Dunk Contest, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see,’’ Obi said. “I don’t want to just give you all answers, but hopefully I might be able to be there. Maybe not. So we’re just going to have to wait and see,” he added.
