The Knicks have signed Rockets G Austin Rivers to a 3 yr / $10 million deal.
Rivers averaged 8 ppg and 2.6 asts, shooting 35% from 3 last season with Houston. He opted out of his player option worth $2.4 million. Rivers is a solid ball handler, pull up 3 point shooter and good defender. He should bring some depth to the Knicks guard rotation.
The question now is, what are the Knicks up to? Rivers joins a crowded backcourt that includes the newly re-signed Elfrid Payton, Frank Ntilikina, Dennis Smith Jr., Immanuel Quickley and Jared Harper (QO). Teams are allowed to carry up to 20 players on the roster during the offseason and currently stand at 18. By the start of the season, they will need to cut to 15. They can do so by either cutting Ed Davis or making a trade. The Knicks may still have an estimated $20 million in cap space left. The situation at MSG remains fluid.

I like Austin as a possible piece to move forward with or as a tradable asset for this year. The deal could not be more team friendly. 👍🏻👍🏻 Chess….not checkers.
