The start of the 2020-21 NBA season is around the corner after the NBPA agreed to begin on Dec. 22.

This intensifies the pressure on the new Knicks front office to show fans they’ve been spending the extended offseason wisely. If they’ve been stirring up a plan for the draft and free agency, now is the time to execute. Reports came out last week shedding light on some potential free agents the Knicks are interested in. According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks are interested in bringing back Justin Holiday.

Justin Holiday

Holiday played 82 games for the Knicks during the 2016-17 season after being traded to New York as part of the deal to acquire Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls. He came off the bench for the Indiana Pacers last season where he shot 40.5% from beyond the arc. Holiday could prove to be a strong acquisition for the Knicks who are in desperate need of consistent, 3-and-D wing players.

Christian Wood

The Knicks also reportedly remain ‘enamored’ by free agent forward Christian Wood, per SNY’s Ian Begley. Although the Knicks have their fair share of power forwards, Wood looked great after the Detroit Pistons traded away Andre Drummond. He averaged 23 points, 10 rebounds and shot 40% from three as a starter during that stretch. He’s worth a look, for sure.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

According to Marc Berman of the NY Post, the Knicks are also interested in Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The Knicks see Kidd-Gilchrist as a good fit under new head coach Tom Thibodeau because they both prioritize defense. They also see him as a good locker room guy that can help build chemistry.

Kidd-Gilchrist played for new Knicks assistant Kenny Payne in Kentucky and is repped by CAA, which Knicks president Leon Rose has strong connections to.

It remains to be seen who the Knicks will target in free agency, but fans will know soon enough with the season around the corner. It’s a safe bet that Leon Rose doesn’t want to stray too far from the CAA web of players and representatives that he knows well, so keep the above guys on your radar.
