With the start of the new season fast approaching and most rosters being complete after free agency, it’s time for the Vegas betting odds to be released. Westgate Sportsbook have the Knicks sitting at the bottom of the over/under wins category tied with Cleveland at 22.5 games. The odds for the Knicks to win their first championship in 48 years is set at 500-1, tied last with the Cavaliers, the Pistons and the Thunder.
There is not much optimism for the Knicks’ season coming from Vegas, with their lack of marquee signings in free agency and the absence of any true star power. The shortened season has added a lot of uncertainty to the league and BetOnline has admitted to the NY Post that it may have gotten some things wrong. “It was tricky this year to calculate Win Totals with the shortened season and I will admit some may be a touch off. We are really curious to see how some of these get bet”, said BetOnline SportsBook Manager Adam Burns.
If Vegas is to be believed, then it looks like another year without playoff basketball in Madison Square Garden and a return to the draft lottery. With $18M left in cap space this season and $8M more needed to be spent to meet the minimum payroll, it is unlikely there will be any major changes to the current roster. With interest in trades for big names such as Russell Westbrook and Victor Oladipo cooling, it’s left to the Knicks’ young core to prove them wrong.
