After striking out on many of the free agents they coveted, the Knicks are mulling the field of available players via trade.
According to Marc Berman of the NY Post, the Knicks are reluctant to bring in Russell Westbrook and are searching for another free agent on the market.
Better yet, one member of the Knicks front office has their eyes on a particular player.
Berman is reporting that, Knicks GM Scott Perry, who drafted Victor Oladipo in Orlando, has brought up the idea of trading for the former all-star to Knicks president Leon Rose.
Rose isn’t sold on the idea, and Oladipo might be less available than he was a few months ago after he bonded with new Pacers head coach Nate Bjorkgren, according to Berman.
Oladipo has struggled to regain his all-star form after knee surgery to repair a ruptured quad tendon almost two seasons ago.
He played 19 games for the Indiana Pacers last season, including 10 games in the NBA bubble. He averaged 14.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists.
The idea of adding Victor Oladipo, the all-star, isn’t a bad idea at the surface. Especially since he’s on the last year of his contract (1-year, $21 million remaining). The problem remains Oladipo’s health. He hasn’t quite gotten back to elite status since the knee surgery and it’s unclear if he ever will.
It doesn’t appear as though the discussions for Oladipo have gone very far among the Knicks front office, but mark Ninja P down as interested in bringing the shooting guard he drafted in Orlando over to the New York Knicks.
