The New York Knicks have come to terms on a one-year contract with former Mavericks forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.
MKG secured a buyout from the Charlotte Hornets in February and was picked up by the Dallas Mavericks shortly before the coronavirus paused the NBA season.
The deal comes alongside a slew of other short-term, defensive-minded free agent signings Leon Rose and the new Knicks front office have completed this offseason.
He’s now the fifth member of the New York Knicks who played under new assistant coach Kenny Payne in Kentucky and is also a former CAA client of Leon Rose.
The Knicks have now filled 20 roster spots, including 16 guaranteed contracts. The Knicks can only field 15 guaranteed slots so expect a trade coming soon.
MKG only appeared in a total of 25 games last season for the Hornets and Mavericks. He averaged 2.4 pts, 2.7 reb and 0.6 ast for Charlotte and Dallas during that stretch. He appeared in 10 bubble games for the Mavs.
