The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly interested in trading for Russell Westbrook, according Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.
He noted that a trade request by Russell Westbrook is a “plausible eventual possibility.” This news came after Tim MacMahon of ESPN tweeted about James Harden and Russell Westbrook’s dissatisfaction with the immediate direction of the Houston Rockets.
The idea of Westbrook coming to the Knicks is polarizing to many Knicks fans. Some think Westbrook’s style of play isn’t conducive to winning an NBA championship and would rather focus on developing the young guys.
Others are desperate for any level of relevancy that the Knicks have been deprived of for years and would welcome him into MSG.
Only time will tell how strong the Knicks’ interest in Westbrook really is as free agency approaches. Who they pursue in the draft might help shed some light on their free agent plans. However things shakes out, though, it’s hard to deny that Westbrook in a Knicks uniform would be box-office basketball.
