With less than a month until Knicks training camp begins, CP kicks off his player expectations series previewing some of the top names on the Knicks’ 2021-22 roster.
In the first episode of the 2021-22 Season Preview, CP The Fanchise is joined by CK2K, JD Sports talk and Alex Trataros to discuss player expectations for Knicks Nerlens Noel, Alec Burks, and R.J. Barrett. Check out the full 2021-22 preview show below on all major podcast platforms:
Here’s a quick breakdown of the show:
Nerlens Noel
Returning big man Nerlens Noel is first on agenda. Noel is in an interesting situation not only due to the uncertainty of his role with an incoming Mitchell Robinson return, but due to his lawsuit against NBA super-agent Rich Paul and Klutch Sports.
While the guys may be split on Noel’s exact role on the team, they all agree that he will provide ample backup for Robinson when he is called upon and could still do well in a starter’s role when needed as showcased this season. Health is a concern for both Noel and Robinson and CK2K believes that second-round pick Jericho Simms has shown potential to replace them in the summer league.
Alec Burks
The next player up was Alec Burks, who CP acknowledges as one of his favorite Knicks. He calls Burks “Mr. 4th Quarter” for his incredible performances in the clutch for the Knicks in the 2020-21 season. The guys discuss his offensive output off the bench, which will be even more impactful with the signings of Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier. The Knicks finally have high-level offense from both the bench unit and the starters. Will the increased depth at the guard spots have a negative impact on Burks’ stats?
R.J. Barrett
And lastly, the player of most interest for the majority of Knicks fans, RJ Barrett. The guys were very optimistic about Barrett. The recent videos of his workouts and open gym games has led to some potential overreacting by Knicks fans. RJ was seen playing with other NBA stars, such as MSG playoff villain Trae Young.
The year three version of Barrett could function as yet another offseason acquisition to add to the list. RJ exceeded CP’s expectations last season, so this season will be an interesting one to see if his growth continues. The guys were optimistic about the apparent improvement in Barrett’s frame and are looking forward to what could potentially be a breakout season for him.
Knicks Fan Overreactions in Full Swing!?
The lively audience call-ins were back in full swing with Ice Water from Brooklyn sharing his prediction for the upcoming season. He thinks the Knicks have a legitimate shot at an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, potentially a finals appearance. He reasons that this team has gotten better from last year and if the Atlanta Hawks can do it – why can’t we.
