In an interview with the New York Post’s Steve Serby, Knicks rookie Immanuel Quickley has revealed his hopes for the upcoming season and some thoughts on his new teammates.
The Rookie Connection
The former Kentucky guard revealed a text he received from his new teammate and fellow rookie Obi Toppin the day following the draft. In this text, Toppin said “Let’s turn this around,” showing his desire to bring winning basketball back to New York. This competitive attitude is shared by Quickley who described himself as a “dog on the court”. Quickley wants everyone to know that although he is a nice guy when he is off the floor, that does not mean he is going to be a nice guy on it.
Who’s Running Point?!
Another misconception Quickley wants to clear up is the idea that he cannot play point guard, a position that has been a problem area for the Knicks in recent years. He stated that he is determined to prove these people wrong, and more importantly to prove himself right. He believes his natural position is at point guard, and he can help his team out in many different categories ranging from shooting, defending and playmaking, among others.

Quickley opened up about his experience of playing in Madison Square Garden, saying that the energy and the buzz in the arena were like nothing he had ever felt. Quickley had 8 points and 2 assists off the bench for Kentucky in that game against Seton Hall. Another Knicks rookie, Myles Powell who signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Knicks, also played in that game and had 28 points and 4 assists for Seton Hall. Quickley believes that from what he saw of Powell in that game that he is the type of player that is never going to quit.
The 6’3” guard believes that his time playing with Kentucky in front of sold-out arenas every night has prepared him for the expectations in New York, and he feels he’s ready to start working towards meeting them.

Quickley and the Knicks will have the opportunity to make a statement of intent for the upcoming season when they take on the Detroit Pistons on December 11th in the first of four pre-season fixtures for the Knicks.
